Most home care is government funded. It is provided to help older adults stay at home or to get them out of hospital or rehab beds.

Governments continue to announce new spending on home care, although they also warn that we will start to have to pay for some of this care ourselves, to the extent we are able.

If you need home care for yourself or a parent, you need to go through your province's central access system to see if you qualify for funded care.  And, most of the care is personal care such as bathing assistance, grooming and the like.  Meal preparation, home maintenance, housekeeping and social support, which are some of the most needed services to ensure the well being of persons living at home alone, are typically not funded.
