When a senior in your family needs little to extensive care to be provided, it is important that family members are aware of what is required and become involved in the process.  Perceived as a fiduciary duty and responsibility in some cultures, providing care for a senior by family members is rather a norm in our society. 

With this in mind, providing care to an aging family member should not be a responsibility of one family member, especially when there are more people who can help.  It is important to keep family members informed and involved in the senior’s care as much as possible.  Furthermore, keeping the family lines of communication open can make the situation less stressful on everyone involved. 
 
What can you do to help a senior in your family?

• Inform and discuss the senior’s needs with all family members
• Divide responsibilities among family members
• Rotate responsibilities among family members to make everyone familiar with each task involved
• Establish regular communication about the senior
• Research additional resources to provide care (e.g. Home Care, Assisted Living, etc.)
